Hope Renewed - Easter 2021

Easter is always a time of hope - Spring in the air, new life budding and bleating in the countryside around us. And yet this year, of all years, there is a special poignancy as we mark the season. We reflect on the loss of the last twelve months, be that loss of loved ones, freedoms, even hope itself. As society emerges from lockdown, more than ever we need what one old hymn writer referred to as 'strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow'. While there is much to be thankful for about the vaccine roll-out across our country, this isn't the kind of hope the hymn writer was thinking of. Rather, they were focused on the central hope of new life that the Christian tradition focuses on at this time of year. It's a hope described for us in the bible...

I remember it all—oh, how well I remember— the feeling of hitting the bottom.
But there’s one other thing I remember, and remembering, I keep a grip on hope:
God’s loyal love couldn’t have run out, his merciful love couldn’t have dried up.
They’re created new every morning.  (
Lamentations 3:20-23)

This Easter we invite you to pause with us and reflect on the only source of lasting hope in this world - Jesus Christ. The Son of God, whose birth we were celebrating in the midst of lockdown just a few months ago, took on himself the sins of mankind as he hung and died on a cross 2,000 years ago. And because by God's power he  rose again, so God can make each of us the promise of new life with him -  an eternal life that sees our relationship fully restored with our creator and saviour.

May you know the peace and blessing that only Jesus can bring this Easter.
